Mission BC backyard wedding|Carolyn and Kelvin
A intimate backyard wedding in Mission BC, with only their immediate family.
It was a sunny July day, with barely a cloud in the skies. We arrived at Kelvin's mentor/ family friend's home where their intimate wedding ceremony would be held. Carolyn or Kelvin hadn't arrived yet but the table for their family style dinner was set, and the ceremony space was simple yet so stunning out in the spacious private back property. The shaded had yet to cover the area but they knew by the time the ceremony was to happen they would be comforted by the cool shade, rather than baking in the afternoon sun. Shortly after our arrival Carolyn arrived along with her family. Once her sister set up the key board piano she joined her sister inside where they enjoyed the final few moments together before the ceremony. Kelvin arrived and went upstairs to get himself ready careful not to catch a glimpse of Carolyn as they wanted the moment as she walked down the aisle to be special. Carolyn's Dad helped him with his tie, meanwhile Carolyn's mom and sisters helped her into her dress.
There was calm anticipation for the ceremony to start. Just in time the minister who was from the church where Carolyn grew up going to on Vancouver Island arrived. He had quite the time coming over to the mainland as BC Ferries had overbooking and cancelations plague the summer. Luckily after attempting two other terminals he managed to walk onto a Ferry leaving the dilemma of how he would get from Horseshoe Bay all the way to Mission BC. He ordered an Uber and with his calm, friendly demeanour managed to make friends with the Uber driver.
Once the family was seated and Carolyn's sister began playing joyous melodies on the piano, it was time for ceremony to start. Kelvin escorted his mom to her seat. Then from across the yard Carolyn with her father made their way up the yard to Kelvin. The ceremony was full of messages from the bible and many words of encouragement from the minister. They shared their vows and completed their ceremony with signing of the legal documents. After the ceremony we did their family photos which included the whole group. We made our way back inside for their Chinese tea ceremony which they did with their parents.
Even though the backyard was very picturesque we still made our way over to Hayward lake for some privacy to capture their portraits. Since it was a hot summer day the beach was busy with many escaping the heat on their summer vacations. I has been there before and new there was a trail just behind the beach where we could have an escape from not only the crowds, but also the heat of the afternoon. Since the two of them share the love of the outdoors this was a perfect spot for them.
When it was time for dinner we made our way back where the BBQ was on and smelled delicious. They all sat at one table together sharing their first meal as a new family. After they ate Carolyn and Kelvin made a speech to their family thanking them all for their love and support in the beginning of their journey along with the appreciation for the continued support they new would be there in their new marriage journey. We slipped outside for a few minutes to catch the golden hour while their wedding cakes defrosted. They chose gourmet ice cream cakes. They were absolutly delicious but did pose a challenge in cutting.
Amanda and Keira did a fantastic job at providing us with the engagement and ceremony photos we wanted. They combined our love for the outdoors in our engagement shots and had an ingenious way of showing the engagement ring. As for the ceremony, they captured all of the footage that we wanted and were not invasive with their techniques and were pretty much ninja-mode. At the same time, they captured the most important events. Lastly, as we had a separate reception on a different date for our friends and family, they were flexible and helped us push out the wedding video so that we could have it in time to broadcast it at the reception! Lastly, for the cost of their services, you do not only get photography, but you also get videography! It was very good value with very high quality shots.
